What Wheelienet participants experience

A Wheelienet session runs for around 45 to 90 minutes and can accommodate a large number of people. Each session typically includes:

  • An engaging presentation about disability and inclusion
  • A group discussion on topics like wheelchair sports, injury prevention and accident awareness
  • A friendly game of wheelchair basketball
  • A Q&A session with opportunities to learn directly from athletes and people with lived experience

Wheelchairs are provided, and sessions are flexible to meet your group size and setting. For schools, up to 150 students can join the presentation and discussion, while 30 can take part in the wheelchair basketball activity at a time. For corporate groups we can tailor the sessions to meet your needs.

Who Wheelinet is for

Whether you’re a school leader, sports coach or corporate manager, Wheelienet can be shaped around your goals.

It’s ideal for:

  • Schools' disability training that promotes physical activity and inclusion for students of all abilities
  • Workplaces looking for unique and meaningful team-building experiences
  • Community, youth and sporting groups eager to learn about disability and inclusion in an interactive way

Including a wheelchair basketball session brings these lessons to life. Participants gain a first-hand sense of movement, coordination and challenge in a wheelchair, while discovering the fun and skill involved in wheelchair sport.

The benefits of a Wheelienet session

Wheelienet sessions are often described as inspiring, motivating and unforgettable. Many include South Australian wheelchair athletes who share their lived experience, insights and passion for sport — bringing learning to life in a powerful way.

Participants leave with a stronger understanding of key topics such as:

Spinal cord injury awareness

Learn how spinal cord injuries happen and their long-term impacts.

Injury prevention skills

Build practical knowledge to make safer, more confident decisions.

Lived experience insights

Gain an understanding of everyday life for people with disability.

Inclusive sport opportunities

Discover the range of adaptive sports available in the community.

Sporting Schools funding

Any schools looking at booking an interactive Wheelienet session for your students are able to use Sporting Schools funding. This is an Australian Government initiative designed to help schools to increase children's participation in sport, and to connect them with community sporting opportunities.

What others are saying

Westminster School in Marion has partnered with Wheelienet for over a decade.

"Education today is more than just maths, science and English. You need to expose students to as many experiences as possible to prepare them for the future. The Wheelienet program delivers something totally different and challenging for the students. The wheelchair basketball through the Wheelienet program exposes the students to a sport that’s totally different. It gives them greater understand and empathy for moving in a wheelchair and the challenges faced by people living with disability. And they really enjoy it."
