Change the culture of fatherhood for the better

Becoming a new father can be one of the happiest times, but it can also become a time of stress and loneliness. We know this can be hard to talk about, which is why this group exists.

Let’s change the conversation and support male role modelling for kids, starting with you.

Who is this program for?

Whether you’re a dad, step-dad, uncle, big brother, cousin or mentor, our dad’s support group is a welcoming space where you can connect, make friends and share the rewarding and sometimes challenging world of parenting for men.

There’s no agenda, no judgment and no costs!

All you need to be part of this group is yourself, as a dad or male role model, and the child or children you’re supporting.

You are not alone

A safe space for dads to connect

You might think you’re the only one feeling unsure or overwhelmed, but you’re not. Most dads feel the pressure to hold it all together, often while adjusting to big changes, sleepless nights and new responsibilities.

Many fathers and carers report feeling isolated. The Australian Men’s Mental Health Forum found that one in ten dads experience symptoms of paternal postnatal depression and 17% experience anxiety. That means if you’re struggling, you’re far from alone.

We’re here for you in any situation.

It’s common to feel one or more of these

  • You’re trying to figure out your new role and it’s tough
  • You’re constantly wondering if your parenting skills are good enough
  • Your performance at work isn’t what it used to be
  • Your mates are catching up and you can’t find the time
  • Your mind keeps telling you you’re not doing well enough
  • You really want to be strong for everyone else

Program Overview

Who we support and what we offer

Novita’s Dad’s support group meets each Saturday morning in Adelaide’s northern suburbs, often in community spaces or playgrounds.

Every session is built around fun, hands-on activities you can enjoy with your kids, like:

  • Construction activities
  • Arts and crafts
  • Mini Olympics
  • Movie days
  • Dress-up days
  • Science experiments

These sessions use a peer-to-peer approach that helps dads, and other male role models, to build friendships, confidence and community. Each session is led by a Novita social worker who’s there every week to support the group and help everyone get involved.

Did we mention it is free to attend?
